Mary Katrantzou - Fashion in Conversation

Mary Katrantzou and Kinvara Balfour

Earlier in the week I was lucky enough to attend Mary Katrantzou - Fashion in Conversation with Kinvara Balfour at the Regent Street Apple store in London.

Mary Katrantzou is one of the hottest designers in the fashion world at the moment and tickets to her London Fashion Week show at the beginning of the week were some of the most sort after tickets!

I really enjoyed listening to Mary discuss how her career has developed and how her fashion collection has evolved from her time at St. Martins. It was a really inspirational talk as it was good to hear about women designing clothes for women as it has been a bit of a male dominated industry of late. It was also really motivating to hear Mary explain how where she has met challenges with the business aspect of fashion design, she has overcome such obstacles by teaching herself what she needed to know and she quite enjoys that side of the business.

Mary Katrantzou's  incredible print designs have been a huge success and the collection for Topshop was unsurprisingly a sellout. I was also very excited about the collaboration with Longchamp. All of Mary Katrantzou's collections are thematic collections, each one telling a different story. My favourite is the 2013 Autumn/Winter 'Film Noir' collection, I think the designs are absolutely beautiful! The 2013/2014 Swarovski collection which features film noir elements; lots of black and white and newly created textured brocade and lace is stunning. The Spring 2014 collection is based on shoes. The collection features prints of brogues, sport shoes and evening slippers which is very innovative.

What are your favourite Mary Katrantzou collections?
